Leisa B. Lawson

Leisa is a Baton Rouge native with deep Alexandria roots. She is a graduate of Rice University, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports medicine. After Rice, Leisa returned to Louisiana to attend the Paul M. Hebert LSU Law Center where she earned her juris doctor. She was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 2011, and is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state and federal courts.

Leisa began her career as an associate with the Gold Weems law firm. She also worked as an Assistant Attorney General with the Louisiana Department of Justice. Her areas of practice primarily focused on employment casualty and civil rights litigation. In May 2020, the Alexandria Civil Service Commission appointed Leisa as Civil Service Director. In her current role, she is responsible for administering the objective, merit based classified system for non-police and fire employees.

Outside of work, Leisa is active in the community and the profession. She was appointed an Assistant Bar Examiner for Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure in October 2022. She also serves on the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

She previously served on the board of the YMCA of Central Louisiana and United Way of Central Louisiana. She is currently a trustee of the Circle Church in Alexandria, and a member of the Zeta Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Leisa is also on the board of the Children’s Advocacy Network, where she has served as board president since 2020.
